About APESB

Professional and ethical standards are fundamental to the reputation of the accountancy profession and to ensure consistency of practice and public confidence in Australia’s capital markets.

The Accounting Professional & Ethical Standards Board (APESB) is an independent, national body that sets the code of ethics and professional standards by which members of Australia’s three professional accounting bodies must abide.

CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (the Institute) established the APESB in February 2006. The National Institute of Accountants (NIA) became the third member of the APESB later that year.

The APESB is equally funded by the three Australian accounting professional bodies.
